Patio - Totem F1

This naturally compact plant is perfect if you have little space and produces good yields of medium sized red tomatoes.

Available from

March to June

Best time to plant

In a greenhouse in April. If you have a harsh frost the plants will turn blue and you may lose some of the leaves, but the plant should still grow out of it when it warms up. If the main stem collapses, you have lost your plant but that is unusual. If planting outside then the 3rd week in May is the best time to plant, after the frosts have gone.

July onwards, when tomatoes are red and swollen.

Growing Instructions

Plant in a 30cm pot/container in well prepared soil/compost in a sunny but sheltered position. Keep well watered until established and in dry weather. Must protect from the frost. Feed weekly once you see 3-4 tomatoes starting to swell. (Not before! This is because the plant will not want to reproduce if its being fed and watered nicely) You may need to support the tomato using a small cane or twig as Totem do get a bit top heavy. Remove any rotting/dead leaves. Does not need the side shoots removing.

Plant Height

Up to 60cm

Irregular watering can cause all sorts of problems, make sure you try and water and feed the soil evenly, try to keep it moist (but not soaking/soggy). DO NOT use farm yard manure on your tomatoes and cucumbers, as farmers sometimes use a hormone weed killer on barley/wheat/straw that is then used as bedding. This will dramatically harm your crop!

Companion Plants

Plant Gardeners Kitchen Tagetes or some very smelly Marigolds around your tomatoes these will help to repel your Aphids.
